Discover Spurn on our walking tours

There’s nowhere quite like Spurn, where the changing currents of the mighty River Humber meet the turbulent waters of the North Sea. This constantly changing environment is the perfect place for a plethora of wonderful wildlife to thrive.

Join Yorkshire Wildlife Trust guides on our new walking tour to explore spectacular Spurn and learn more about the sensational species that call it home. Find out about what it takes to create and maintain delicate habitats and the challenges of life on the edge, where nothing stays the same for long – and where history has often been more dramatic than fiction.

The tour starts and ends at the Discovery Centre and last around 90 minutes, with plenty of stops along the way.

Our Wild Wander is the perfect introduction to Yorkshire’s Land’s End. You’ll find out:

  • How Yorkshire Wildlife Trust looks after wildlife and its habitats today, including pioneering work to bring back lost and threatened species.
  • How Spurn was formed and continues to shift shape
  • The remarkable wildlife you can see here, including epic migration journeys and the rarities that birders flock to see
  • The amazing human history of this precarious peninsula, including the lighthouses and lifeboats, and the incredible true story of a town lost to the sea

(please note the tours aren’t suitable for young children).

Mobility

This walk lasts an hour and a half and takes place over uneven terrain. We use the coastal path along the top of the cliffs and the steps down to Warren Cottage.

What to bring

Dress for the weather (it can be very cold and exposed at Spurn, so bring plenty of layers) and wear sturdy footwear. We suggest bringing binoculars along for the journey.

There are toilets, including an accessible toilet, at Spurn Discovery Centre. The Spurn Discovery Centre cafe is open 10am until 4pm (hot food served until 3pm)

Parking information

£5 per car for all day parking. This money goes directly back into managing and protecting Spurn National Nature Reserve. There is free parking for Wildlife Trust members who display their up-to-date membership card on their dashboard
