About the event

Join Professor Alastair Fitter for a tour around Askham Bog nature reserve to discover some of the iconic flora, including the amazing giant royal ferns, on this ecologically important site. Once called a ‘cathedral of nature conservation’ by Sir David Attenborough, you'll also delve into Askham Bog’s complex history from the end of the last ice age, through medieval peat cutting, to its modern recovery under the management of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.

The wooden boardwalk is accessible for wheelchair users and buggies. It is a short loop, with a sloped track from the carpark, which can be accessed at all times . Wellies are required for the rest of the site which is boggy with deep pools and ditches.

What to bring

This event takes place outside so brace yourself for the Yorkshire weather! Sturdy footwear is always recommended.

Wellies, waterproof clothing/insect repellent (weather dependent), torch (night events), binoculars, food/water.
