Wild Work Days

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust!

Wild Work Days are tailor made days that incorporate practical conservation, team building, communication skills and wellbeing into one day. Whether your group want a full day or half day, a day at the beach or a day in the woods, to build fences or help take care of our livestock we have something to suit everyone as long as you’re willing to get stuck in and enjoy the great outdoors.

Wild Work Days not only make a difference to your team, but the community in which they live and work. They are a chance to building team relations, improve communication and strengthen your brand whilst simultaneously benefiting local wildlife and communities.

What we provide

- Public Liability insurance
- Risk assessments
- First aid kits and first aid trained staff
- Very knowledgeable and experienced staff who have a real passion for what for the Trust and our work.
- All necessary equipment, training, and expert supervision
- A tailor-made task suitable for the team
- A few of our reserves have catering facilities and room hire available, please ask if you are interested in this.

What your team will need

- Your team will need to bring:
- Sturdy footwear
- Light layers, including a hat and waterproofs
- Water bottle and packed lunch
- A can do attitude regardless of the weather!

Costs

Wild Workdays are charged at £50 per head (plus VAT) for a full day. 

The only exception is beach cleans, these are charged at £25 per head (plus VAT) as these are shorter sessions.

We do also have a business membership scheme which would entitle you to discount on Wild Work Days as well as a whole host of other benefits.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel or change your booking:
 

We do offer refunds and partial refund as detailed below.

Wild Work Day cancellation 30 days or more in advance: full refund

Wild Work Day cancellation between 14 and 29 days: 50% refund

Wild Work Day cancellation 1 to 13 days in advance: no refund

Changing the number of participants 30 days or more in advance: full refund for the number of participants no longer attending

Changing the number of participants 29 days or less prior to the Wild Work Day: No refund

If we cancel the Wild Work Day:
 

Wild Work Days are very occasionally cancelled, normally due to extreme weather or unforeseen site management issues. If this is the case you will be notified as soon as possible before the day and we will suggest a date to reschedule, or we will process a full refund.

Wild Work Day FAQs

Group sizes

Please note that the standard group size for a Wild Work day is between 5 - 20 participants.

What if one of the group can’t attend?

We ask for all Wild Work Days to be paid for upon booking. We offer refunds in certain circumstances, please see the cancellations section of this document.

What if it is bad weather?

Wild Work Days will take place except in extreme weather such as heavy snow, extreme rainfall, flooding, thunder storms.

Will there be anywhere indoors?

Most of our reserves do not have indoor areas.

Will there be anywhere to buy food or hot drinks?

Most of our nature reserves do not have catering or hot drink facilities, we recommend to take a packed lunch, reusable water bottle and a flask.

Will there be toilets?

Most of our reserves do not have toilets, details of the nearest toilets to the reserve your Wild Work Day is taking place at are above.

How long will the day last?

Full Days are usually 10am – 3pm or 4.00pm

Can under 18 year olds participate?

Yes 16 and 17 year olds can, their parent of guardian will need to sign a short form that the participant will need to bring with him/her on the day.

What to wear

Please wear old clothing, you don’t mind getting muddy. Long sleeves and trousers are recommended to reduce the likelihood of scratches, stings and bites. Be prepared for all weather e.g. bring a waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers if you have them, sun hat, etc.

Wellies are advised, or Sturdy boots e.g. safety boots or walking boots. Open-toed shoes, sandals, soft shoes, crocs, high heels etc. are not appropriate for this task.

What to take

Please take a water bottle, reusable where possible! Please take sun cream during warm weather. We also recommend taking insect repellent, especially during the summer months. If you suffer a reaction to insect bites and stings or have hay fever please bring any specific medication with you e.g. antihistamines, EpiPen etc.

Secure storage for personal items

We advise you to leave all valuables at home. There is no secure storage on site.

Health & safety and Frist Aid

The Health and Safety of all participants is of paramount importance to us. We ask that all involved in the Wild Work Day take common sense precautions to look after their own health and safety, and that of those around them. A site and task risk assessment have been completed. Upon arrival a risk assessment talk and tool talk will be given, please listen and follow the instructions. There will be first aider on hand during the activity.
