Over 20km of watercourse was surveyed along the River Seven and Thornton Beck in 2024/25. Sediment pressures identified within these surveys will be used to direct engagement work in future years. Capital works were undertaken at two separate sites; Levisham Beck and Troutsdale Beck. Three new livestock drinking points were installed along Levisham Beck in conjunction with fencing upgrades undertaken by the North York Moors National Park Authority. 250m of new riparian fencing and a new solar powered livestock drinking point was installed at Troutsdale Beck.
By restricting livestock access and creating a natural buffer strip between a grazed field and the beck, sediments and pollutants can be trapped and filtered out before entering the watercourse, improving water quality. The buffer strip also provides important bankside habitat, crucial for many terrestrial and aquatic species. Together this work has improved riparian habitat along 2km of watercourse. Several new sites have been worked up with landowners, forming a pipeline for delivery in 2025/26.
