Species Reintroduction (YDCP)

Living Ark Project

The Living Ark Project focused on four important species: tansy beetle, greater water parsnip, willow tit and narrow leaved water dropwort. The project aimed to strengthen the resilience of these species from the risks and effects of climate change (unseasonal flooding) and wider habitat loss. The project was being delivered by mixture of hands-on conservation with local volunteers and mapping and research.

Greater water parsnips were planted in 2022. They were monitored and found to have established successfully at Wheldrake in 2023 and 2024. Also in 2023 and 2024 at Barmby on the Marsh, volunteers built 6 timber stock proof enclosures and planted tansy plants, the tansy plots at Wheldrake Ings were monitored, and more were grown from seed for planting.
