About the event

As part of the Doncaster Civic Trust's Heritage Open Days we are delighted to offer this free guided walk. Please note booking is essential as there are a limited number of spaces.

Discover how the development of the railway system in the 19th and 20th centuries directly influenced the creation of Potteric Carr Nature Reserve.

From the mid-19th Century, the railway network expanded and developed immensely throughout Britain, reflecting the national industrial changes just like those taking place in and around Doncaster. We will see how the railways grew, what changes they made to the landscape and how they indirectly preserved the remnant flora and fauna that had existed in parts of the local area for millennia. An accidental partnership of railways and reserves resulting in the beautiful site we have today.
