Under our Water for Wildlife banner, we work to protect, improve and create a range of wildlife habitats associated with fresh water. We work both on flowing water: rivers, becks, ditches, and on standing waters such as ponds, gravel pit lakes and reedbeds.
We also work to preserve and encourage many important species, including otters, water voles, kingfishers, newts and frogs, dragonflies and uncommon wetland plants. We specialise in the conservation of some of these species, in particular otters, water voles, water shrews, harvest mice (in East Yorkshire) and great crested newts.
Water for Wildlife in Yorkshire is part of a unique partnership supporting wetland conservation across the UK. At a national level Water for Wildlife co-ordinates the wetland work of The Wildlife Trusts, working with water companies, the Environment Agency and other key partners, to provide a more consistent approach to wetland conservation. It also supports national and regional projects, raises the profile of wetland conservation, and encourages sharing of best practice between the trusts and their partners.
