School holiday fun at the seaside!

Tuesday 22nd March 2016

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Living Seas Centre has a packed programme of events, and boat trips for everyone to enjoy across the holidays.

The Living Seas Centre is based at South Landing, Flamborough Head and is the perfect base from which to explore Flamborough’s wonderful headland this spring. The centre is open daily from 10am – 5pm and there is plenty to see and do.

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust experts shall be running a range of special events for everyone to enjoy from the Living Seas Centre; kicking off with an Egg-stra Special Seashore Safari. The safari will mimic a traditional Easter egg hunt but you won’t be searching for chocolate eggs, instead you will be searching for eggs belonging to some of the wonderful wildlife we find in rockpools at South Landing. You can also join Trust staff for a Living Seas Safari Boat Trip. Setting off from North Landing you can get up close and personal with the seabirds returning to Flamborough’s amazing sea cliffs to breed and raise their young. All the details for the events can be found on the Trust’s website by following the links above; booking is essential.

If you fancy something a little more relaxed for the holidays then nothing beats a stroll around Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Flamborough Cliffs Nature Reserve. It’s a great place to watch seabirds from. Take a pair of binoculars with you to get the most out of your walk.

The Trust always welcomes everyone who is able to offer their valuable time and is inviting anyone who loves the coast and the seabirds to get in touch if they would be interested in becoming a  'Peering at Puffins' volunteer. Peering at puffins is a free event run by a small number of Trust volunteers. Based at Flamborough Cliffs Nature Reserve our peering at puffin volunteers chat to visitors and show them the breeding seabirds using telescopes and binoculars. Peering at puffin events are organised for set Sundays from May to July and run from 1pm – 4pm.

No experience is necessary and full training will be provided but a passion for wildlife and a willingness to engage others in conversation would be useful. As a Yorkshire Wildlife Trust volunteer you will also have access to a full range of training sessions delivered by other experienced volunteers and Trust staff.

To get involved or for more information feel free to contact the Trust by calling 01904 659570 emailing or visit our volunteering webpages.
