Linking Local Limestone

Wildflowers growing on magnesian limestoneWildflowers growing on magnesian limestone - Credit Carys Hutton

Thanks to generous funding from Biffa Award, we continued with our excellent work protecting and restoring Yorkshire's magnesian limestone Living Landscape for almost another two years!

The project built on the successful work carried out in the previous Loving Your Local Limestone project, with a total of 13 new sites around the Doncaster area selected. Work included:

  • Woodland management such as tree thinning and glade creation
  • Grassland management including grazing and scrub control
  • Species-rich hedgerow creation
  • Seeding roadside verges with a special limestone mix
  • Leading practical taster sessions and training days for volunteers and local groups
  • Surveying and monitoring sites.

Update 19/11/15: We are now running volunteer work days every Thursday on Magnesian Limestone sites from 19th November. Get in touch below to find out more information and how you can get involved. There is mix of practical woodland and clean-up tasks; all are welcome.

Update 5/4/16: The project and task days have now finished as of 31/3/16. Work continues to build the next Magnesian Limestone Project.
