Our values

Our values are at the heart of everything we do

Here at Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, we have five core values.

Courage

Our mission is to create a Wilder Yorkshire, by bringing wildlife back through actions to achieve net gains for our natural systems and biodiversity. We strive to reverse the decline of wildlife in Yorkshire, and recognise change may be necessary to achieve this (in laws, processes, behaviour, etc.). We understand that change is often uncomfortable and/or unpopular for some communities and interests, including ourselves. As such, we are receptive and responsive, and ultimately courageous by seeking continuous improvement in ourselves so we can further benefit wildlife. We advocate and act for wildlife, and the resulting public benefit, staying true to our purpose, with respectful and dignified conduct, even in the face of opposition and hostility.

Responsibility

We are responsible and embodying our values make a difference. We take every opportunity to demonstrate our values in everything we do. We recognise the role we each have in building an organisation where courage, responsibility, integrity, trust and respect is embedded in our day to day activities and is showcased through how we interact and behave towards each other, our supporters, partners, colleagues and volunteers.

Integrity

We believe in our mission to create a Wilder Yorkshire and the associated public benefit of positively managing our wildlife and wild places. We maintain integrity in everything we do and how we inspire, educate and involve people to take action for wildlife. We model the change we want to see in the wider world through our attitudes and actions.

Trust

We cannot achieve our mission on our own, therefore, strong, trusting partnerships and collaborations are essential. We seek to build common goals and ground with individuals, communities and organisations. We are one Trust; trusting our colleagues and our teams. We recognise that building and maintaining trust takes time and energy, and cannot be taken for granted. We want everyone to trust us, so base our work as far as possible on evidence to ensure we are trustworthy.

Respect

We endeavour to be inclusive, valuing diversity and recognising it as being crucial to delivering a Yorkshire rich in wildlife for everyone. We respect the views and needs of others and foster equality of opportunity whenever we can. We treat all those we work with respect. We respect our workplaces and the resources we are given to complete our work (e.g. vehicles, tools, equipment) and treat them accordingly.
