Staveley Community Outreach Officer

Salary: £21,800 p.a plus up to 4% employer pension contribution

We are seeking to appoint a Heritage Lottery Funded Community Outreach Officer in Staveley.

The purpose of the post is to assist the Northern Reserves Manager to encourage school children, young people and adults alike to value, understand and take positive action for Staveley’s wetland heritage through skills training in practical conservation work, scientific recording and through  enjoyment of this heritage asset.

The post holder will be required to manage volunteers and contractors as well as a budget in the order of £10,000 to £100,000. This post operates at a district-wide scale and involves a wide range of complex and non-routine activities with substantial autonomy.  Dealing with complex queries and regularly liaising with suppliers, contractors, volunteers and other staff are integral to the post. Generally, the post holder will have experience of outreach work as well as appropriate qualifications.

The successful applicant will have good communication skills, a full, clean driving license and be familiar with some basic habitat management skills as well as be able to use and maintain a variety of hand tools. They will be used to working independently but also as part of a team.

The post is subject to a CRB check at enhanced level.

Future Jobs Fund (FJF) Team Leader - West Yorkshire

Salary: £19,200 p.a. Fixed Term Contract to 31 March 2011

The Future Jobs Fund Team Leader will work in the Kirkless area and will be responsible for managing and co-ordinating the on-site activities of a group of up to 10 individuals, mainly 18–24 year olds, who have been out of work for six months. The FJF Team Leader will manage the FJF team as well as organise and manage a programme of work that will deliver both the objectives of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and the personal development of the FJF employees.   The programme tasks will range considerably but will include building maintenance, construction and refurbishment projects as well as practical conservation work.

The post holder has responsibility to manage contracts and tools expenditure wisely, dealing with suppliers and contractors as appropriate.  They will need considerable skill and experience of practical land management to undertake their tasks effectively. The post holder will be expected to work as part of a team with a professional and result oriented approach. They will work closely with other staff, Trust groups and volunteers to promote the relevant policies and objectives of the Trust in general and those relating to this post.

A full, clean driving license is required as it will often be necessary to travel within the county and locations may not be accessible by public transport.

Trainee Reserves Assistant South & West and Trainee Reserves Assistant North & Central

Are you looking for a great opportunity to join the conservation sector and gain invaluable experience in a practical role?

Our Field Officers carry out a varied and important progam of reserve field work to creat and protect high quality habitats for a range of wildlife across Yorkshire.  You could join them as volunteer trainee.

You'll spend time carrying out habitat management activities, working with local volunteers and assisting the reserves team in wider tasks such as surveying and interacting with visitors.

You'll need enthusiasm for wildlife and conservation, skill in practical work or willingness to learn and to be friendly, approachable and reliable.

Volunteer Education Assistants (Bringing Quarries Alive) x 2

Are you looking to start a career in environmental education?  Yorkshire Wildlife Trust can help you!

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is working in partnership with Tarmac at two quarries in North Yorkshire.  Together we aim to involve, promote and educate local children and communities in the positive benefits of the aggregates industry for nature conservation. 

We are looking to recruit two volunteer education assistants to help with the delivery of this project.  The successful volunteer/s will assist the Programme Manager and Project Assistant with the delivery of school visits, public events and community activities in the quarries.  They will also help to develop learning resources, lesson plans and publicity materials.

You will gain experience of working with children in a large conservation organisation, as well as opportunities to develop your knowledge end experience of environmental education and identification skills.  You will be reimbursed for travel and out of pocket expenses and there is a healthy training budget.

The position will involve travelling across North Yorkshire between York and the quarries near Ripon and Skipton.

Two placements are offered on a part time basis (3 days per week), and each will last approximately 23 weeks until March 2011.

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust are offering six full time v-involved placements to volunteers aged 16-25 years old.  All v-volunteers benefit from flexible expenses and equipments and training budgets.  We also offer support and advice in career development.  Placements are offered for the following positions; please follow the links for the role description:

Part Time

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust are offering two part-time v-invloved placements to volunteers aged 16-25 year olds.  Both placements are offered on a 3-day a week basis to include Mondays and Wednesdays plus one other day.  The sessions are frequently delivered on evenings and weekends.  There is some flexibility in this for the right volunteer.

All v-volunteers benefit from flexible expenses and equipment and training budgets.  We also offer support and adivce in career development.

You will assist with the Running Wild project to plan and deliver activities for children and young people aged 8-18 years that promote interest and enjoyment in the natural world.  There will also be the opportunity to assist with similar education projects.  This will involve planning educational seesions, writing risk assessments, promoting acitvities and assisting with and delivering educational sessions. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in environmental education with a wide age range.

Start date Mid October until mid December (8 week placement)
