Conservation Work

  • Experienced Otter Surveyors - download job description
Otter The work of the Water for Wildlife Project includes helping to monitor the distribution of otters.
If you are competent in otter surveying your help would be greatly appreciated. Don't worry if you're feeling rusty, you will be asked to send in samples of any spraint and photos of footprints that you find for verification. We will agree a stretch of river for you to survey three times a year; if that does not suit you, we can make other arrangements, e.g. for you to check under one or more bridges instead. We will provide you with a manual explaining otter surveying and safety tips, and forms for you to complete with your results - we need to know if you don't find anything. You will need someone who is willing to go out surveying with you, for health and safety reasons (it's more fun that way too). You MUST be able to swim, in the unlikely event that you fall in the river.
  • Churchyard Advisors with the Living Churchyard Project
The Living Churchyard Project provides valuable surveying and advice services to people who manage churchyards and burial spaces throughout Yorkshire; much of this work is done by volunteers.
