Storm damage at Spurn

Storm damage at Spurn

(C) Steve Rainbow

Extensive storm damage to the road at the northern end of the washover means we sadly have cancelled Spurn Safaris until the end of February.

On Wednesday 5th January , the road at the northern end of the washover at Spurn was hit badly by storms. As a result, a section of the remaining functioning road leading down onto the sand has been irreparably damaged.

This section of road is critical for access to Spurn point as it enables vehicle access for the vehicles that ourselves and the RNLI use for operational access. It also allows access for the Unimog which takes passengers on our Spurn Safari tours to the point.

We have established a temporary access route in place to allow essential trips for the RNLI and ourselves using lighter vehicles, but it is currently not possible to take the Unimog safely down to the point. As such, we sadly have to cancel all Spurn Safaris between now and the end of February.

If you have booked on a Safari for one of these dates, we will be in touch shortly to discuss your options.

We will be investigating the full extent of the damage over the coming days and weeks, and will monitor further severe weather closely. We hope to create a new non-surfaced route to allow ongoing safe access for the future and will be discussing this as soon as possible with Natural England.

We're not certain at this stage how long this may take or how much it will cost. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience and support during this time!

This only impacts on our operational vehicular access. Spurn Discovery Centre and the car park remain open, and it is still safe to visit the site, including walking to the point at low tide.
