GB Railfreight and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust

GB Railfreight have sponsored Potteric Carr nature reserve since 2019...

Your support has enabled Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to restore precious habitats, protect wildlife and engage schools, community groups and individuals to have a stronger connection to wildlife.

Potteric Carr is a wild oasis just waiting to be explored. Nestled between the M18 and East Coast Mainline, it's a remnant of the vast fenland that once stretched all the way across the Humber basin to the coast. Around each corner you'll discover a true mosaic of habitats, from reedbeds swaying gently under big open skies to winding woodland trails and networks of ponds teeming with life.

During summer, the meadows are full of butterflies and abuzz with insects, while winter brings the magic of thousands of starlings creating incredible aerial displays. Listen carefully and you might even hear the booming of the elusive bittern.

From nature enthusiasts to lunchtime stroll – there is something here for everyone.

University of Leeds Wild Work Day

Wild Work Days

Does your team need a break from Zoom calls and spreadsheets? Time to reconnect? Maybe you want to give back to wildlife and your local community. Our Wild Work Days are excellent for team building, morale boosting, supporting mental health and improving communications. Plus, they support Yorkshire's wildlife at the same time!

Each day is tailor-made for your team (we recommend 5 to 20 people). Activities can include building bird boxes, establishing ponds and planting aquatic plants, removing invasive non-native plants and planting trees. You'll learn about wildlife, the habitat and how the task in hand supports nature.

GB Railfreight, as a Gold Member of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, is entitled to 20% discount on all Wild Work Days. To find out more email sarah.robinson@ywt.org.uk
