Wild about York!

Be it woodland, wildflower meadow or your nearby park - now is the time to make the most of your local ‘living classrooms’ by teaching the youngsters who will influence the way in which nature is protected in the future

Our very successful Wild about York! project was completed in 2008.

The main aim of the project was to provide high quality outdoor education on green spaces around York for primary schools and the local community, in order to promote a greater appreciation of the green spaces in the York area.

This project aimed to deliver educational sessions on local green sites or on school grounds.  Sites used during the project included everything from woodlands to wetlands to wildflower meadows.

The Wild about York! Education Pack

The project involved the production of an education pack, which proved to be a popular high quality resource for teachers to use when delivering outdoor education. The education pack enables teachers to be fully equipped with everything they need to conduct an exciting and effective outdoor education session. It contains lesson plans which support the National Curriculum objectives for Key Stages 1 and 2 and these are linked to the QCA schemes of work. The pack also contains risk assessments, maps of local green spaces and provides lots of stimulating ideas. Lesson plans within the pack cover a wide range of subjects from Science and Citizenship to Music and Maths.

A college recommended your Wild about York! pack. It's brilliant!

Here are just some of the comments we have received:

'Having just started in my role with Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust as Education Officer I’m on the look out for some new ideas. A college recommended your Wild about York! pack. It's brilliant! It would be really useful for me to get some ideas and inspiration from it.'

- Katie Gee, Education Officer, Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust/ Ymddiriedolaeth Natur Maldwyn

'I am on a mission to try and put together an educational programme that will wow all Radnorshire schools into visiting our reserve at Gilfach. When I saw your educational pack online I could only dream of having time and talent to draw up such an incredibly professional and inspiring document.'

- Suzie Fraser, People and Wildlife Officer, Radnorshire Wildlife Trust
