Wild Eye Wildlife Webcam

Marine Communications and Engagement Manager, Cate Holborn, tells us about Wild Eye’s new live stream webcam positioned in Scarborough Harbour in partnership with SeaGrown, and what we hope to see from its perspective…

Wild Eye, the art and nature programme celebrating Scarborough’s incredible wildlife and coastal environment, have partnered with SeaGrown, the UK's first large-scale offshore seaweed farm, to launch a live stream from a camera positioned on the mast of their vessel, MV Southern Star, docked in Scarborough Harbour.

The camera stream provides viewers with a unique perspective of the Yorkshire coast, showcasing the beauty of the natural world, panoramic views of the North Sea and opening a window into Scarborough’s busy harbour which can be accessed from wherever you are.

Positioned atop MV Southern Star, which functions as a seaweed farming research vessel along with café, restaurant, and visitor centre, the live stream offers a captivating look into our remarkable coastal ecosystem. Viewers can expect to witness breathtaking seascapes, encounters with the North Yorkshire Coast's diverse marine wildlife amongst the crashing waves, and constantly changing harbour scenes.

Wild Eye and SeaGrown aim to highlight the positive role seaweed plays in contributing to the health of the ocean, the fight against climate change and as a habitat for marine life, whilst raising awareness about its benefits for both the environment and local communities.

We are pleased to be supporting Wild Eye on this exciting project. The live stream will allow people from all over the world to experience the magic of Scarborough Harbour and the beauty of the North Yorkshire Coast.

Wild Eye is delivered by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and art-science organisation, Invisible Dust, in partnership with North Yorkshire Council.

The project aims to foster a greater understanding of the incredible wildlife found across the North Yorkshire Coast, increasing awareness of issues around nature, biodiversity and climate change.
