River Torne Water Surveyor

We're improving the way the River Torne works, adding wiggles back in and restoring wildlife habitats as part of a project to reduce the risk of flooding in local South Yorkshire villages like Tickhill. It’s amazing what our natural environment does for us, but we need you to get involved too!

On the River Torne, upstream of Tickhill, we are looking for local people to help monitor the water quality and level of the Torne and its tributaries. Volunteers will walk through the lovely Maltby Low Common nature reserve, a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) taking measurements at seven “dipwells” along the way. These measurements will record the water levels at these wells and water quality at several points along the stream helping us to build evidence for the importance and impact this project is having locally.
