CoCoast Marine ID Training Day at South Landing, FlamboroughCoCoast Marine ID Training Day at South Landing, Flamborough

UK waters are teeming with fantastic sea life. But our marine wildlife and habitats are under constant threat. The best people to protect our seas and wonderful marine biodiversity is each and every one of us.

Aiming to help us do just that is CoCoast, a project driven by a wide range of organisations concerned with understanding and conserving marine biodiversity that aims to find out more about the species that live in our seas and how we can protect them.

Join the CoCoast community of volunteers

It’s a simple 4-step journey to play a part in this exciting and rewarding project. You certainly don’t have to be an expert in marine ID – just have a passion to become one! You don’t need any prior knowledge about marine life or recording – the CoCoast team will support you in developing the simple survey skills required.

1. Sign-up online at www.capturingourcoast.co.uk/Get-Involved
2. You’ll then receive information about an upcoming training day near you. Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Living Seas Centre near Flamborough is delighted to be hosting one on Thursday 9 November.
3. You’ll then get to choose a species packs and will receive your free survey kit.
4. Head to the shore and survey when you're ready!

The project is aimed at people who have opportunities to access the coast, however if there is no Hub within a 70 mile stretch of coast convenient to you, or that you are willing to travel to, you are encouraged to register your interest anyway. CoCoast will endeavour to provide training at additional venues. After training you can survey anywhere you wish.

There is no cost involved in this training or participation. Volunteers need to 18 years of age or older. By registering your interest you are not obliged to attend, or to participate further in this project.

Please let us know if you become involved!
