We have a vision for Stirley Community Farm...
a centre of training and education, inspiring children about the natural world on their doorsteps and giving people the skills they need to grow their own food in a sustainable, wildlife-friendly way and bring wildlife back to the 250 acres of meadows. Our first year has been incredible, and there are lots of ways to get involved.
Learning to grow food
Groups of adults or accompanied children are invited to come to the farm for training and experience in growing their own food. These sessions usually take place on Thursdays and Fridays, and are tailored to suit your group. Bookings can be made with the Food Education Officer, Kim Warren. Our vegetable training garden is flourishing, and we are currently establishing an orchard and forest garden.
Individuals and families are welcome to come to any of our regular food growing events. Gardening Club is held on Thursdays between April and September from 5-7pm, and is an informal drop-in event where we tend the training gardens and learn what seasonal jobs need doing in our own gardens or allotments.
Volunteer Trainees
Two volunteer trainees have been recruited to assist Ian and Kim this year. They will receive accredited training in various land based activities and a varied and challenging work experience.
Schools at Stirley
During 2012, while we establish access and facilities on the farm, we will be welcoming schools to Stirley Farm on Wednesdays during the summer and Autumn terms. Activities include practical food growing, conservation and land management.
