YWT Spurn - We were at Spurn Head last Monday and as we were walking back along the road we came across a caterpillar that I subsequently identified as a bedstraw hawkmoth caterpillar. Click here to see a photo on Flickr.

YWT Askham Bog - After a disappointing Summer for butterflies it has been good to see a fair number of speckled woods on recent sunny days.  I've not noticed them there in previous years.

Whitby - Here you can see some great photos taken on a day out on Yorkshire's Living Seas. Highlights include a inke whale spotted, 3 miles off Whitby and a pomerine skua off Flamborough Head.

YWT Spurn - Juvenile black kite this morning, landing on the wires by The Warren, then flew north.

YWT North Cliffe Wood - Dragonflies: Migrant hawkers, emerald damselflies, common darters, black darters and ruddy darters. Butterflies: Speckled woods, red admirals, commas, small coppers and one green veined white. Also common groundhopper, field grasshopper, and birch shield bug.

YWT Allerthorpe Common - Dragonflies: Common darters, emerald damselflies, black darters, ruddy darters and migrant hawkers. Butterflies: One female brimstone, two speckled woods and a single small copper. Grasshoppers including meadow grasshoppers and field grasshopppers. Shieldbugs: Birch shieldbug, spiked shield bug, gorse shield bug, and common green shieldbug.

19th September

YWT Askham Bog - A lovely little treecreeper at Askham Bog this afternoon, plenty of activity today despite the chill! A large mixed flock of marsh tits, long-tailed yits, blue tits and great tits were forming near the entrance. Still a southerrn hawker patrolling the boardwalk and still a couple of chiffchaffs hanging around.

Weatherby - Bank vole in garden now - oh so cute !!! Eating sunflower hearts that the many goldfinches have discarded below the feeders.
