YWT Filey Dams: A tundra bean goose was present with 3 white-fronted geese.

27 December 2011
YWT Welwick Saltmarsh: 4 short-eared owls were seen.

25 December 2011
York Millennium Bridge: A large otter, probably a male, was seen by Aaron Gribble on the River Ouse on Christmas Day morning - a fine Christmas present!

21 December 2011

YWT Wheldrake Ings: 200 European white-fronted geese and 19 tundra bean geese have been seen in the Lower Derwent valley this week. Wheldrake Ings could be a good place to look for these birds.

YWT Potteric Carr: The bittern is still present on Decoy Marsh.

16 December 2011

YWT Filey Dams: a female Smew is present today for its second day on the reserve. This scarce winter visitor from Scandinavia can be recognised by it's white cheek patch on an otherwise chestnut head, plain grey body and black and white wingbars. The drake Smew is stunning, being pure white, with a black eyepatch and 'cracked ice' pattern on the body.

Huddersfield: 5 Waxwings are still present today in the town.

14 December 2011

YWT Potteric Carr: It seems like the Bittern is becoming a bit of a fixture at Decoy Marsh on the reserve. Around 3-4pm in the afternoon appears to be the best time to see it. It was in front of the hide for at least half an hour today!

13 December 2011

Kiplingcotes Nature Reserve: A little owl has been spotted at this reserve, the first time since last year's harsh winter! There is also a strong flock of fieldfares and redwings at the reserve.
